Texas losing to D2 Chaminade is a blow to the reputation of the conference. Even without Cabango the Longhorns shouldn't have fallen this far. Hopefully he gets back soon.
Oklahoma State on the other hand is looking surprisingly strong.

Kstate lost in the NIT championship to Michigan. They beat no one good to get there, because of a couple upsets. Ksu was competitive for a half.

Speaking of the old spice classic, while I'm still rooting for the Big 12 teams at this point of the season, it's getting annoying how Gonzaga is tearing its way through the Big 12. They already have big wins over WV and OU. Down the road they play Baylor, Oklahoma State and K-State. I can easily see them going 5-0 against us.

OU is still avg. Kruger is known for having huge upswings in his 2nd years at other universities, but when all those McDonald's AAs left with Capel, there was not much left for Kruger to work with. Good news is that Kruger's recruiting seems to be doing okay. At least for a mid level program like OU.

The two teams Gonzaga beat are worse than the three they have left to play. I wouldn't fret over it, just yet.

Congrats to the Longhorns for the win over UNC. It's too bad about Kabongo being declared ineligible for the year. Despite tonight's game it looks to be a long year for Texas.

Cats beat Florida on the same day that ku beat tOSU. Two big wins for a bad conference.

Conference play is underway. I didn't get a sense of a lot of interest for participation in a weekly Pick'em contest so I won't attempt to do one.
I don't see this conference race as being a competitive one. Hopefully I'm wrong about that.

The conference is bad, and KU is better than expected. They've plugged in some really good pieces this year. The "race" shouldn't be especially compelling. The Big 12 finished the non-con well with wins over Ohio State, Florida and North Carolina. That will boost the RPI, and perhaps get four teams into the tournament, depending on conference records.
K-State beat Oklahoma State Saturday in what I would call the battle for second place. McGruder had a huge second half and earned player of the week honors.
Oklahoma won at WVU for its third win in its last 27 road games.

ISU pushed KU to overtime in Lawrence. Hopefully that's a wake up call for the Jayhawks and they begin to realize that they can't just roll in and expect to win games. I wish we had a stronger opponent for our next game than Tech because I think KU will be very focused.

ISU "should have" won in Lawrence.
The 'Clones got up by 3 points with 11 seconds to go. With 6 seconds to play, Ben McClemore banked in a 3-point shot to send the game to overtime.
Coaches need to learn to foul in this situation! Teams that are down three on the last possession, make the shot and go to overtime 25% of the time. When the team in the lead fouls, the game makes it to overtime 5% of the time. The odds of losing in regulation, when up by three on the last possession, are 1:12,000. Hoiberg screwed the pooch on this one.
Bill Self said afterward that Fred did what Bill would have done, which was a lie. The Jayhawks beat tOSU in the Final Four by FOULING in the same situation.
