Agreed on the fouling strategy, although I'm not sure where you're getting these interesting stats. As for Bill Self, maybe he was trying to not discourage the young ISU coach who put together an otherwise brilliant game plan.

ISU "should have" won in Lawrence. The 'Clones got up by 3 points with 11 seconds to go. With 6 seconds to play, Ben McClemore banked in a 3-point shot to send the game to overtime.Coaches need to learn to foul in this situation! Teams that are down three on the last possession, make the shot and go to overtime 25% of the time. When the team in the lead fouls, the game makes it to overtime 5% of the time. The odds of losing in regulation, when up by three on the last possession, are 1:12,000. Hoiberg screwed the pooch on this one. Bill Self said afterward that Fred did what Bill would have done, which was a lie. The Jayhawks beat tOSU in the Final Four by FOULING in the same situation. Yeah, but he actually called "bank" when it left his hand. ;D

Calipari did the same thing in the '08 NC Game

For the first time ever under Rick Barnes the Longhorns are 0-3 to start the conference season. They host the Jayhawks on Saturday and then travel to Normal for a Big Monday game vs. the Sooners. An 0-5 start is looking like a distinct possibility.

Texas athletics are getting rusty overall. Too many early NBA defections for Barnes over the last few years and then Kobongo's suspension this year are reasons for the craptastic season. Funny thing is that the current coaches in both major sports have huge contributions in Texas' success (well compared to when they took over their respective programs) so it's a wait and see and hope for the best next year kinda situation. Sorry for the seriously long sentence.

The sunflower showdown will be a hard fought game for 1st place on Tuesday night. I predict the Jayhawks will pull out a late close win.

It was a fantastic game. I think K-State had a good gameplan for KU, but didn't hit their shots. Thirty 3-pointers is a lot, but if they hit their average (37%) they would have likely won the game.

I think Texas is a better team than their record indicates. They just dont seem to be able to focus for the entirety of a game. Having a team of all freshmen & sophomores will do that. Kansas will be a lot like that next year. Currently we have 7 freshmen and 4 seniors. Next years team will be pretty much all freshmen & sophomores.

It doesn't suck to count McLemore as a frosh. I think UT has 11 Fr/So.

Beginning the week of 2/4
1. Kansas 7-1 (ISU, @ttu, BU, @ut, @ksu, OU, @wvu) 2. Kansas State 6-2 (OSU, @wvu, @tcu, OU, UT, @ou) 3. Oklahoma 5-3 (@wvu, OSU, TTU, UT, @bu) 3. Iowa State 5-3 (UT, WVU, @tcu, KSU, BU) 3. Oklahoma State 5-3 (TCU, TTU, WVU, ISU, @ku) 3. Baylor 5-3 (UT, @ttu, TCU, OSU, @tcu) 7. West Virginia 3-5 (@ut, TCU, @ttu) 8. Texas 2-6 (TTU, TCU) 8. Texas Tech 2-6 (@tcu, ISU) 10. TCU 0-8
I find it interesting to track teams wins. It makes it easier to compare teams who are tied, half way through the conference slate. Baylor is 5-3, but has three wins against TCU and TTU. To me those are near gimmes, and put you below other teams with the same record.
(I'm sure I've jinxed my 'Cats trip to Lubbock by saying games against TTU are gimmes!)

It turns out you jinxed the Jayhawks instead. In all seriousness though, i think OSU exposed Kansas as a team that falls apart when the opposing team presses them. I think the Jayhawks maybe peaked in December, started to decline in January and are obviously having a disaster of a February. It's gut check time.
