I can't help but laugh. Not at Tech fans, but at Tuberville. The guy came into the Big 12 thinking because he succeeded in the SEC, he'd have no problem cakewalking his way through this conference.
I hope Tech gets a good coach who loves Lubbock and stays there. It helps the conference.

I agree, Tuberville is the monorail salesman from The Simpsons. Comes in talking a big game, has no idea how to do it, then leaves halfway through. I really don't mind him leaving, I just hope gets called out on all the bs he's been spouting the last three years.
It clearly wasn't working for him at Tech. We had every opportunity to win the last few users, but kept finding ways to lose. It's years team should've been 9-3, the Texas and Baylor games should've been wins. He continually out coached himself though. He did recruit well, so the next guy should have some good weapons to play with, we'll just see where it goes.
The name I gave you guys a year ago, Clemson OC Chad Morris, is a candidate. He was a HS head coach at Lake Travis, where our up and coming QB played. He's my top choice because he knows the state, the conference and has a connection to Tech. Brent venables name has come up too. We probably make a futile run at Art Briles again and at least make him say no. Kliff Kingsbury keeps coming up, but he's way too inexperienced.

So I got to thinking, with a coaching search underway in the conference, what are top coaching jobs in the conference. I'll rank them in order with a brief reason why.
Texas - clear choice at the top because of name, resources and location Oklahoma - same resources, slightly worse location, but right there with Texas Oklahoma State - shot up the list the last few years because of money and resources TCU - great location, great resources, sleeping giant program Baylor - similar to TCU, just slightly worse location Texas Tech - location is biggest drawback, otherwise they have all they need to win West Virginia - too far away from their recruiting base, small state Kansas State - small state really hurts, too little recruiting base Kansas - if they cared about football, it would be a great job Iowa State - horrid location in a small state
The four through eight teams could be in any order. You could make a good case for any of them. The top two are never changing. When T Boone kicks the bucket, OSU will drop, but that program is rolling right now.

When TBoone kicks the bucket OSU is getting another large sum of money. He's already got it setup.

Brent Venables is an interesting choice. GREAT recruiter and is a player's coach. HC ability is unknown though.

Recruiting ability is kind of negated as a head coach. They have limited contact with recruits. He played with Kirby Hocutt at Kansas State, so they're tight. I wonder if its possible to bring him in as DC with Chad Morris as head coach. Maybe that's just dreaming though.

It just makes you feel for the Red Raiders when they lose their basketball and football coaches in a span of a couple of months.

"@kbohls: The top three HC candidates at Texas Tech are Clemson OC Chad Morris, Texas A&M OC Kliff Kingsbury, new Cal HC Sonny Dykes, TT source says."

They have to at least interview Kingsbury. He's one of the rising names in the coaching business, even though he's young he'll be a head coach in the next five years. I just don't think he has enough experience right now to be a head coach. He only have 5 years experience in coaching... at any level. He doesn't have the coaching contacts to build a staff, he doesn't have that much top level recruiting experience or program management experience. He just needs a few years. Still though, Tech has to interview to gauge where he's at and to let him know we're interested so that if we're back in this position in a few years, we can turn to him then. Plus, maybe this is dreaming, perhaps our new HC could hire him away from A&M as an OC and assistant HC. That way we can groom him to be the head coach one day just like OSU did with Mike Gundy.
My dream coaching staff is Chad Morris as head coach, with Brent Venables as DC and Kingsbury as OC. That's shooting for the stars, but at least I can dream.

Tuberville is a good coach, but a bad fit for us. He could've been successful, but it just wasn't working. He would've been on the hot seat again going into next season, so leaving this way gives both parties an easy out and spares us all the real possibility of him being fired next season. This is the best outcome for both of us.

This is not really nice but that guy always looked like a snob as he walked the sidelines.

I really don't mean to pile on the hate bandwagon even more, but Tuberville constantly rubbed Tech fans the wrong way, myself included. Like Puppet has said plenty of times, he came in cocky as hell thinking that since he came from the SEC, he knew how to handle these flukey offenses. He constantly made dismissive comments about what Tech had done before him, or the conference. The thing that bugged me most was the he would always start a statement with little disclaimer, "Well we're not a good football team yet, but..." He always had a condescending tone about him, no matter what the subject was.
That said, he did a lot of good for us, I do recognize he left our program in a better place than he found it. No coach sticks around forever, so that's all you can ask of any coach your team ever has. Our talent, facilities, and fundraising are all in a better place because of him. So the three years haven't been a waste, we'll just move on from here. I'm excited about the possibilities moving forward, I know Tech isn't a destination job and we're not a perennial contender like others are. We're a good job though, and a coach can win at Tech. Having OSU and KSU win the conference and have a legit chance at a national championship shows me reason to believe Tech can do it too.

Supposedly, Chad Morris and Kingsbury have been interviewed. I'm feeling greedy and hoping for both, Morris as HC and Kingsbury as OC!
Personally, I'm on the Morris bandwagon. Kliff will always be a favorite of mine, but he's just not ready to be HC. If we could lure him in as OC with a huge pay raise from A&M and an associate head coach position, then great, but I doubt it.
