I swear... we must have the dumbest fanbase in America! I remember now why I quit reading the Tech fan boards. I read some boards yesterday to see if there's a new scoop on the search and the comments are absolutely mind blowing! Fans are practically outraged that we're even looking at or talking to anybody not named Kliff Kingsbury. To these people, Chad Morris is off limits because A) he graduated from A&M, and B) he's a flight risk because he's had 3 jobs in the last 5 years. Yet they ignore that Kingsbury graduated from Tech but works for A&M and is also on his 3rd job in the last 5 years. If you think Kingsbury is a better coach than Morris, that's fine, but at least be consistent in the arguments.
I'd be thrilled with either guy as our head coach, I just don't see how so many people are dead set on Kliff and nobody else. He's a risky, risky hire with tons of upside, but tons of disaster potential too. He's a more challenging hire because we'd have to surround him with veteran coaches who have the experience to make up for what he doesn't have and be extremely patient as he learns on the job.

Kingsbury was announced the new HC at Tech. Congrats Tech. Kingsbury at Texas Tech sounds just right. His affinity for Tech as a graduate makes him a great choice. He just coached a Heisman winner. I don't know much about the other guy but I feel this is a great hire for Tech all things considered.

Great hire in a lot of ways. He has a lot of on the job training to do, but the fan base will give him all the patience in the world. This move is high risk, high reward. If it works, it'll be a stroke of genius! Kliff is young, charismatic and flat out cool enough that he will recruit well, and he knows his X's and O's like the back of his hand. He has to learn to be a program CEO, and that'll come in time.
It's amazing to think that he played against 3 current Bug 12 coaches (Stoops, Brown and Snyder), and played for 2 others (Briles and Holgorson).

I wonder if he gets a Super Bowl ring for being the 3rd team QB. Backup player or not, it would be a helluva recruiting tool for Kliff to walk into a recruit's house with a Super Bowl ring on each hand and say "who says you can't get to the NFL running this offense?"

I don't know much about the other guy but I feel this is a great hire for Tech all things considered. He has a lot to prove to me. Sumlin has always been a great OC. I have a problem believing he let someone as JR as Kingsbury have 100% playcalling responsibility. In other words, I'm not sure he's the reason why aTm is so successful offensively.

Same here. He definitely has a lot to prove. His play calling isn't my concern. Can he put together and manage a staff? Can he discipline his team, will the players respect him or think he's their pal? There's a thousand things involved in being a head coach and running an offense is just a small piece of it. So I know is isn't the cure for all that ails us, we have a lot of big steps ahead of us. We need to see what kind of staff he puts together and go from there.

I think his staff hirings will tell you a lot about how successful he will be.

Being as young as he is, I think he needs a very strong minded first lieutenant who can be the bad cop to his good cop. Ideally, that guy would be the defensive coordinator. Regardless, he will need some coaches on that staff that the players will fear.
I don't expect him to take on the world in his first year. As excited as Tech fans are, we all know he needs time. He'll get all the patience he needs, the fans want Kliff to succeed just as much as they want the team itself to succeed. I've described this before, but at Tech we don't have casual t-shirt fans or sidewalk alumni. If you're a Tech fan there's a 90% chance you went there or someone in your immediate family went there. So Kliff is one of us, and seeing him come back as head coach is like watching one of your kids grow up to be a huge success.
