June 30 is around the corner and I will express my true feelings about CU, the Pac-12, and Big 12.
First of all, I realized that I miss the Big 12 more than I expected. Do I wish CU still was in the Big 12? I'd say it's 50-50 at this point but given what CU the school really is, it's understandable that they are in the Pac-12 not the Big 12. The Pac-12 does have a nice collection of football programs but the quality of football isn't quite up to par with the Big 12 & SEC. The culture of fans is quite different as well and given that I was born in OK & lived in Texas before I moved to Colorado, you could say that the CU fans who didn't come from California was in for a culture shock. The Pac-12 schools and fans aren't quite into football like the Big 12 and SEC and that is why I will go back to following both CU and OU with a heavier emphasis on OU. I plan on following the SEC as well especially A&M to see how they are doing. Same for the Huskers in the B1G.
The fans of OU, OSU, TT, and UT should be GRATEFUL they didn't move to the Pac-12. I don't expect NU, MU, and A&M fans to have this issue but I could end up being wrong on all counts.
The Pac-12 will be an awesome conference in its own right but it's far from being like the Big 12 or the SEC. The key difference is that the Pac-12 is the best when it comes to olympic sports but at the same time, football & basketball suffers due to those programs not getting the same amount of resources that Big 12, B1G, and SEC teams get. The Pac-12 still has their share of hardcore football & basketball fans but it's much smaller compared to the B12, B1G, and SEC.
I hope this post illustrates how much you should appreciate the Big 12 for what it is and keep it together. Given my knowledge of the ACC schools, I can understand the angst of Clemson & Florida State fans since the ACC is the east coast version of the Pac-12 to a degree.
We Must Keep the Big 12 Band Together!
