Is that important?

Depends on your definition of important.
Tech has been endlessly criticized for weak nonconference schedules over the last several years, it seems worth giving credit where it's due now that the trend appears to be over.
It also seems to be important in that the SEC just voted NOT to go to a 9-game conference schedule, but one of their teams just signed up a game against another BCS conference school. So all their talk about not wanting their schedule to be too difficult is crap, they know as well as we all do that fewer games amongst themselves lets each of them inflate their record as much as possible.

Playing an $EC team is like playing two BCS conference schools at once, right?

Well the really good part of this is that losses to SEC teams don't count against you in the rankings since all those teams are just so darn tough!
