Last year the Texas defense was fun to watch. I didn't like the fact that we seemed to give up some big plays but overall it looked promising. I expected us to get better this year despite losing some really good players to NFL. I am hoping that Diaz figures out what the heck is going on and he has the rest of the year to show improvement. The current defense is just not Texas. If we get another 600+ yard game against us this year, I think Diaz should go.
What are your thoughts as non-Longhorns?

Looks to me like flat out bad tackling. The guys aren't out of position, they're in the right place to make plays, they're just not being physical and they're not properly tackling. Like so many players in football these days, they try to shoulder people to the ground and go for the highlight reel hits instead of wrapping a guy up and taking him down.
The biggest difference in Tech's defense this year compared to last has been exactly that, tackling. We don't run an exotic scheme, we don't fool or confuse the offense, we just keep the play in front and swarm to the ball. If you do that, you'll force your incompletions, you'll simply keep making the offense earn their yards the hard way, and mistakes like turnovers will come. Texas isn't doing the fundamentals like that.

I gotta say though, I'm not impressed with the direction the Texas program is going these days. I can't help but wonder if Mack Brown's message has gotten stale, he has been there 15 years after all. Manny Diaz is a good defensive coordinator, and Bryan Harsin is a good OC. They're not the problem, but they're not getting it done either. The system in place just doesn't seem to be working, and I'm not talking about X's and O's or schemes, I'm talking about the day to day operations of the football program. Texas needs a new CEO in charge, it's not that Mack Brown is incapable it's just that his administration is in decline and his operational structure just isn't working. Texas needs to overhaul the football program the way a fortune 500 company overhauls their corporate organizational chart and management structure. I just think Mack Brown's time has passed.

OU fans love Mack ;D Actually I am indebted to him too, so it's really his schedule whenever he decide as far as I am concerned.

Every RB is having a career day against Texas. I feel bad for Manny. If we are going to hire young coaches we have to give them a chance. We can't have bad karma following us like a bi@#$ like Nub and aggy for a long time.

I'll admit, 1 bad year doesn't warrant him being let go.
But it does beg to question if he isn't living off what Muschamp built and it's starting to unravel...
