Regardless of your point values... everybody root for Northern Illinois. If Kent State wins the MAC, they will qualify for an automatic BCS bid. Which deserving team will get left out of the BCS if that happens... Oklahoma. Oregon and Florida will be guaranteed at-large bids due to a top 4 ranking, and Notre Dame is assured a BCS bid. Add in the 6 BCS conference champs and that's all 10 spots. All four at-large bids will be contractually guaranteed in that situation, so no bowls would even have a choice of teams. Not only will we have the two worst BCS bowl games of all time, Florida State-Kent State in the Orange Bowl and Florida-Rutgers in the Sugar Bowl, but all of our teams would get bumped down one bowl game.

I plagirised this from another board, but it's explained really well here: ....Right now there are essentially 5 bowls for 10 teams, knowing that no conference can get more than 2 teams in a BCS bowl. The selection order this year is Fiesta, Sugar, Orange with the Rose required to take a non-AQ team provided one is available AND that either a Pac-12 team or a B1G team is in the NCG. As it turns out Kent State is right on the cusp of being an automatic qualifier (despite getting drubbed by UK earlier this year). In order to qualify, they have to win their CCG, finish in the top 16 of the BCS, and finish ahead of an AQ conference champion. Well the Big East ensured one requirement with their crappy football. Kent State is currently sitting at 17. The team ahead of it is UCLA who will play Stanford (at Stanford) for the Pac-12 title...the same Stanford team that beat them soundly a few days ago. They play one loss NIU for the MAC Championship on Friday. These are locks: NC: ND (automatic) vs. Winner of Bama/UGa Rose: Nebraska/Wiscy vs. UCLA/Stanford Fiesta: KSU/OU (KSU if they beat UT, OU if KSU loses and OU beats TCU...probably KSU) vs. ?? Sugar: ?? vs ?? Orange: FSU/GT vs. ?? Okay so you are looking at 4 sets of ??. Since the Sugar lost the SEC champion (whoever it is) they get first pick. They will choose Florida...unless there is no movement from the UGA/Bama game. The number 3 team in the BCS is an auto-qualifier so someone would have to pick them up and since it is an SEC team, it is a given that the Sugar would do so. So you are looking at one of Bama, Florida, and Georgia in the Sugar. One set down. Then you are looking at the Fiesta with the next pick. They can pick anyone left on the table of the auto-qualifiers (Big East and potentially Kent State) or the at-large qualifying teams (OU/KSU), Clemson, and Oregon). They will select Oregon. So here is what we are looking at: NC: ND vs. Bama/UGa Rose: Neb/Wiscy vs. UCLA/Stanford Fiesta: KSU/OU vs. Oregon Sugar: Bama/UGA/FL vs. ?? Orange: FSU/GT vs. ?? If Kent State gets into the Top 16 things get messy. No bowl wants them and no bowl wants the Big East champion. In that scenario, the Sugar probably takes the Big East champ (after the Utah over Bama thing, I think the Sugar is gunshy about non-AQ's) and FSU gets Kent State. Not really appealing at all. OU who has two losses to ND and KSU would be left in the cold in favor of Kent State or whatever crap crawls out of the dumpster fire that is the Big East. Horrible. The only things that would prevents it are an NIU win over Kent State, a UCLA win over Stanford, or a Texas win over KSU...which probably gives OU the auto-bid in the Fiesta and moves KSU into the at-large pile. If NIU wins or UCLA wins we are probably looking at OU in the Sugar and the Big East survivor against FSU. If UT wins, OU is in the Fiesta and KSU probably plays in the Sugar. It would be a shame if 10-1 Kent State who lost to a bad Kentucky team goes to a BCS bowl over 9-2 OU who lost to BCS #1, and #6.

That's not entirely correct Mohawk. 1) The top 4 teams in the BCS are guaranteed a BCS bid. Florida is currently #4, they can't possibly move down without playing this weekend because the only two other teams that are playing this weekend (KSU and Stanford) are too far behind to catch them. Unless Georgia/Alabama inexplicably stays at #3 despite losing (which would be stunning), Florida is guaranteed a BCS bid. So pencil them into the Sugar Bowl, check that... write it in ink. Also, pencil Oregon in for the Fiesta Bowl, because sitting at #5, they're basically assured of moving to #4 regardless of what happens with Stanford/UCLA. Even if they don't get to #4 ahead of the Georgia/Bama loser, the SEC already has two teams in the BCS and neither is #1, so the SEC runner up is out of the running. Plus, the Fiesta Bowl picks first... and they'll pick Oregon. So write Oregon's name in ink too. 2) The Big East does not forfeit their bid to the MAC winner, they're still an automatic qualifying conference, so their champ goes to the BCS too. Saturday's winner between Rutgers-Louisville is in, guaranteed. So really, 9 of the 10 BCS slots are set, the difference from what you read is that Florida and Oregon will be guaranteed bids, and even if they weren't they'd get picked first since the Fiesta and Sugar pick their at large teams first. So... Champ- ND vs. SEC winner Rose- NU/UW winner vs Stanford/UCLA winner Fiesta- KSU vs Oregon Sugar - Florida vs Orange - FSU vs Rutgers/Louisville So a Kent State win basically boils down to this... if Stanford wins, UCLA falls in the rankings and Kent State qualifies automatically to bump OU. If UCLA wins, they claim the Rose and Stanford/ OU are both eligible for the one and only at large bid remaining. OU would probably get it. Doesn't really matter who wins the Big 12 or comes in second, we all want both Kansas State AND Oklahoma in the BCS because nobody wants to watch Kent State. So we need Northern Illinois or UCLA to pull the upset and make it a moot point. Kent State in the BCS would make not just one, but TWO horrible BCS matchups. The Sugar Bowl picks before the Orange Bowl, so they'd pick the lesser of the two evils and take the Big East champs. That leaves the Orange Bowl with FSU/Georgia Tech playing Kent State.

. . Congrats to longhorn99 for the great finish. Everyone played well and made this thing exciting to the final week especially the four guys on the top. I hope you will all participate in a similar weekly basketball challenge when the conference season starts. I'll only do a weekly challenge if there's enough interest.
