I was thinking that it would be fun to have a thread dedicated to news on the four newest members of the PAC.

That Tucson paper talks about why the new DC who is installing a 3-3-5 defense left West Virigina after 32 years. I'm very curious to see how that 3-3-5 could work in a conference like the Pac-12 and that spread option offense that Rich Rod is installing.

The latest on ASU under their new coach. Out of the four Mountain schools, I have kept the least amount of tabs on and I am planning on increasing my daily dosage of all things Sparky.
Given how ASU will be more of a running team this year, I can only wonder how many more touchdowns Cameron Marshall will score this year. He scored 18 rushing TDs in a pass heavy offense last season so I'm expecting 20+ from him this year.

While we are still talking about RBs, Jason White is looking forward to the help he will be getting from his fellow RBs this fall. The Ute RBs are working on their pass catching skills since they will probably be catching more passes out of the backfield this season. Could Brain Johnson be using some of Urban Meyer's shovel pass plays from the past?

The CU QB competition is down to three QBs: Woods, Webb, and Hirschman. Shane Dillion had shoulder surgery last offseason and will redshirt. I hope CU's QB is settled once for all before the CSU game but at the same time, I wouldn't be surprised if we go through all three of those QBs. I know Webb (from his KU days) and Hirschman can tuck the ball and take off...don't know about Woods.
I'm getting older and it's getting more difficult to keep tabs on an entire conference, so I decided I will do it on more of a regional basis and it will include CU and CU's newest three rivals...something that I believe will more likely happen instead of just Utah-CU.

I want to see Jordan Webb succeed. He's a good hard working kid. Unfortunately for him with Charlie Weis substantially upgrading that position there was no room for him on the roster but from what I hear he's the likely starter at CU.

The way Weis handled everything was very classy. Weis could have had Webb toiling in the depth chart but Weis was upfront with him and said that there was no place for him. KU is blessed to have a classy coach in Weis. As for Webb, he will have to learn the playbook quickly but at the same time, he has the edge in playing exprience. I would not be stunned if the QB position plays musical chairs this season until one QB actually sticks out. The good news is that Webb has two years to play two seasons. Webb will wear #4 for the Buffs.

Some thoughts of the day here:
CU will have the feel of more like a Pac team than a Big 12 team due to the departure of many seniors the last couple of seasons. It is widely believed that CU has upgraded in the speed department which is a must for the faster pace of play in the Pac versus the Big 12. I don't think the Huskers, Aggies, and Tigers will be facing that kind of speed difference in their new conferences. Even the 2001 CU Buffs still had a hard time with Oregon's speed in the Fiesta Bowl.
Utah is probably still more like a MWC team this year but in the next year or two, we'll see more of a Pac-like Utah squad.
Speaking of speed, it'll be fun to watch Arizona's offense with Rich Rod with that Pac speed. I don't think ASU is that fast of a squad overall but it'll be fun to see more of a run orienated conference this year along with some pass happy offenses.
CU should have a better season this year...I remember the Buffs having to use offensive players in the defensive secondary on less than one week's time due to injury & suspensions last year and the Buffs paid dearly for it. It was brutal when the Buffs played @stanford, @washington, Oregon, @asu, and USC in one five week stretch. I believe even the top Big 12 teams would have had issues with that kind of schedule.

I work four days a week (10 hour days) so I am thinking I could break down each opponent of the 4C schools by also including news from those schools. This will be the schedule:
Mondays: Arizona Tuesdays: Arizona State Wednesdays: Colorado Thursdays: Utah
Utah is the big winner here...unlike last Black Friday.
I do keep an eye on UNC up in Greeley and they really struggled last season. They were picked again to finish dead last in the 11 team Big Sky Conference this year so Utah should have no problems with this squad.
http://www.uncbears....http://www.uncbears.com/sports/fball/2012-13/releases/0803121stpractice
UNC just opened practice and unlike the 4C schools this summer, they won't be answering questions about who their starting QB will be. Seth Lobato will be the starter and he was once a walk-on QB under Dan Hawkins at CU and he can play ball but UNC won't have enough weapons to handle a Pac-12 contender like Utah.

I'm posting this on three different forums...maybe it's time for me to start a blog.
EDIT: I did that and it is 4CSports.blogspot.com
Please give me time to make it awesome and everyone is welcome to throw tomatoes at me for my lousy predictions or praise me for being an idiotic genius. ;D

JUCO QB moving up the charts at UA. BJ Denker appears to have nailed down the backup QB job over several freshmen.
http://www.azcentral...http://www.azcentral.com/members/Blog/DouglasHaller/168418
ASU's QB situation doesn't appear to be as clear as their rival's QB situation.
http://blogs.denverp...http://blogs.denverpost.com/colleges/2012/08/09/colorado-tailback-tony-jones-ready-big-year-qb-nick-hirschman/24101/
I was pleasantly surprised that Tony Jones is now 192 pounds on that 5'7" frame. From what I have heard about him, he appears to be ready for a big year.
http://blogs.denverp...http://blogs.denverpost.com/colleges/2012/08/09/excolorado-coach-gary-barnett-observations-buffaloes/24103/
Could CU's QB situation be clearing up? According to former Buffs coach Barnett, Webb appears to be the man.

Utah's strength is in the DL and one Utah fan even commented that strong teams have strong DLs. Remembering that powerhouse CU of the 1990's had strong DLs at that time, I would have to agree with that Utah fan.
http://www.deseretne...http://www.deseretnews.com/article/765595690/Utah-Utes-football-Even-with-Chase-Hansens-injury-Utes-no-longer-thin-at-quarterback.html
While Utah is trying to figure out their QB is depth chart, they are not lacking in numbers. Wynn and Hays are back this year plus two newcomers (was three with Hansen until he had that injury and decided to go on a mission after the semester is done).
I'll go ahead and create some rankings on which team has the more clearer QB picture:
1. Arizona 2. Utah 3. Colorado 4. Arizona State
I plan on including basketball coverage and I'm going to figure out which days I would include basketball coverage. During football season, I'm thinking that I would do it on the weekends such as Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Check back later for some basketball coverage. It might not come until tomorrow so I'll give out double coverage tomorrow on the round ball. (I will set up a seperate 4C Basketball Thread on the basketball forum)

Unfortunately for him with Charlie Weis substantially upgrading that position there was no room for him on the roster but from what I hear he's the likely starter at CU. Gary Barnett had some good things to say about Webb after observing a recent CU practice. He didn't say a thing about the other two QBs. Coach Embree even said that Webb reminded him of Koy Detemer. If Webb can get the playbook down, I think the starting job is his to lose.

Well then. If Coach Graham said it, it HAS to be the truth. He'd never lie! ; )
That wasn't about your post so much as my dislike to the person discussed. hehe
